Contacts can be imported to either add new records or update existing records. You can import data to populate any of the fields in a contact record, including custom fields.
Whilst you’re in your trial period you are able to reset all your data, so why not give the following exercise a go to see just how it works before trying it with your own data. We've provided a spreadsheet of data for you to use, download it from the guide below.

EXERCISE
Import a list of customers from Excel to create the records in Brightpearl.
You will need:
The Excel file CONTACT_IMPORT.XLS, click to download it. You will need to save it to your computer; save it to your desktop to make it easy to find.
Follow these steps:


Any errors will be displayed in a red box at the top of the screen; this should give you some indication of what needs to be done. If the file can be read successfully a green box will display a summary of what has been read and created from the file.



- Go to Setup > Data/Import > Import Customers/Suppliers.
- You will see a pre-configured Data Map called "Import Contacts". Click the Import link.
- Test the file first of all by clicking the Choose File button and selecting the CONTACT_LIST.XLS file from where you saved it.
- Click the Upload XLS file button.
- This will not import anything but tell you if there are any errors encountered.
- If the file can be successfully read, you can go ahead and import your contacts. This time check the Tick to import values box. We’ll look at the other options later.
- Select your file and then click the Upload XLS file button.
- The green box will summarise the outcome of the import. Here we can see 3 contacts were created.
Now go to Customers > List all Customers to see your contacts!
