Parking / Holding sales in EPOS

Brightpearl web based Point of Sale software lets you park, or hold, sales to close at a later date. You might want to do this if a customer needs to leave and return later in the day, or perhaps you are running a number of separate tabs or tables in a restaurant.

Setting up sale parking

Brightpearl will update sales to a "parked" status, so you'll need to set that up before you can park sales. Create a new sale status at Setup > Sales > Sales statuses called "Parked EPOS sale" or similar, then from the Setup > Channels > Setup: EPOS screen, select this status for parked sales. You'll now see a "park" button in EPOS.

Parking a sale

Once you have a sale open, just click "Park" at the top right to hold the sale in a waiting area. The sale will be left exactly as-is for you to open again later. It will be visible in the back-office on the "parked sale" status. Parked sales don't expire automatically (but we'll explain how you may want to expire parked sales below).

Viewing parked sales

If you have any parked sales for a till, a count of the total will be shown at the bottom of the EPOS screen. Click that total to see a list of parked sales. This list will be the sales which:

  • Match the till ID of the till you're currently logged into
  • Are set to the "parked EPOS sale" status
  • Are not yet invoiced

To re-open a sale from the parked list, just click "open". Simple! If you want to void a parked sale, you can do so from the parked list. Voiding a sale will simply update the status to that which you've chosen in the sales workflow settings to be the "cancelled" status.

When you un-park a sale, it will be updated to the "new EPOS sale" status.

Cleaning out expired parked sales

Sometimes the customer will never come back. Ah well, c'est la vie. In this scenario you'd probably want to clean out the parked sales list periodically. We suggest that you do this from the back office using the sales list filters. Search for all orders created on your chosen EPOS channel, created between two dates, where the sale is not yet invoiced. You can then batch delete if you want.
