Brightpearl has some powerful coupon management capabilities to entice your customers back for more!
Creating coupons
Coupons can only be created by an administrator using the back-office screens. You'll need to have marketing permissions turned on.
- Go to Marketing > Discounts/Coupons.
- Click the Add coupon button.
- Enter a name and coupon code.
- Specify whether discount is a percentage or fixed amount.
- Enter the coupon amount (percentage or fixed).
- Select a lead source to be recorded when this coupon is used.
- Specify how many times the coupon can be used in total, e.g. you have an offer for the first 100 people.
- Specify how many times a single person can use the coupon.
- Mark you coupon as active.
- Enter the date range for which the offer can be used.
- If you want to apply a minimum spend, enter the amount.
- Click the Save button.
If you're creating a fixed-amount discount, then it will be added as a line item to the EPOS sale with no tax.
There are a number of different restrictions you can put on coupons;
Maximum uses per user
You'll need to use this in conjunction with creating customers in EPOS (i.e. not using the anonymous walk-in customer). Great for "first purchase $5 discount" offers, or for discounts that can only be used once.
Maximum uses
This restricts the number of uses overall, across all customers. Great for "first 50 customers get $10 off" type offers.
Lead source
This is really handy. If you assign a lead source to the coupon, then the sale will be updated to that lead source when you apply the coupon. Using coupons assigned to a lead source is a great way to track the success of your marketing campaigns. Using the filters on the sales list in back-office you can see exactly how many sales resulted from a brochure or event for example. You can even use the Lead source filter on the Profit and Loss report to see how much profit you made!
Redeeming coupons in EPOS
The EPOS console will only accept the Brightpearl coupon barcode to prevent abuse - you can scan the barcode straight into the till system whilst creating a sale. Once you've got a sale open, click "scan coupon" at the top of the screen. Ensure the cursor is in the box and use your barcode scanner to scan the code.
As long as it's a valid code then the sale will be updated. You can only redeem one coupon per sale.
Fixed discount coupons
A line item is added to the sale, with a negative price. The comment for the item is the name of the coupon.
Percentage discounts
If you add a percentage discount coupon to a sale in EPOS, then all line items will have the discount amount applied automatically. You can modify the discount on each line if you want to later. As you add new items, the discount will be applied. Only items that have list prices will be discounted (since the discount is applied to the list price).
Printing coupons / barcodes
Once you've set up a coupon in Brightpearl, you'll want to find a way to print and distribute to your customer base. It's really simple to print a barcode for a coupon straight from Brightpearl; on the right hand side of the coupons list you'll see a little barcode icon; click that and you'll get the barcode ready to save to your computer.
Once you've got the barcode image you can add it to any marketing collateral you like. Here are some ideas:
- Design a flyer and add the barcode. Customers need to bring the flyer to the store to redeem
- Send an email with the barcode embedded in the email. The customer will need to print the coupon and bring it to your store, or even just display it on their smartphone ready for you to scan at the till (some barcode scanner struggle with this though).
