Tips for accurate inventory control with Magento:
Ensure that all your products are synchronised with Magento. You’ll still get orders from your store, but for every item on the order that’s NOT synchronised with Brightpearl, we’ll use a comment (free text) row instead of the actual item. You can filter your sales list by integrated channel.
Creating a configurable product in Magento for a Brightpearl product group
Brightpearl will group items of the same name into a product group automatically. You differentiate between variants in a group using options, such as “size”. Magento requires that you create an additional “Configurable product” which groups these together and can be displayed on your Magento store as a single product.
- Create a set of product variants in Brightpearl; they will be created in Magento as “simple products”.
-
In Magento, ensure that the attributes you’ve used are available to be used in Configurable products:
- Go to Catalog > Attributes > Manage attributes and select the relevant ones.
- Set the Scope to be Global.
- Choose Yes for “Use to create configurable product”.
- Save the attribute.
- Create a new product in Magento, choosing the product type “Configurable product”.
- Select the attribute(s) that you’ve used in the Brightpearl product group.
- Enter values for name, price etc.
- From the left hand side of the product create screen, choose “Associated products”.
- Select the Simple products you created in step 1.
- Save the Configurable product.
You’ll now have an item that can be displayed on your Magento store. However, watch out for the following:
The price of the configurable product will not change if the components change price. Your customer will pay the price you entered when you created the configurable item. However, if you’re using the Community edition of Magento then you can install an extension that uses the price of the simple products
