Should you need to move items around within your warehouse, then you'll need to record that movement in the system to keep it up to date. This is essential, otherwise your picking and packing notes are going to be inaccurate.
Internal movements are only necessary when you are using warehouse locations, and will be different depending on whether you are using multiple concurrent or standard locations.
Standard Locations
Each product can only ever be placed in a single warehouse location. Each time you receive the item into stock it will always be placed in that location, and each time you sell the item it will always be picked from that location. The location used is defined per warehouse directly on the product record. If you decide to change the location of an item all you need to do is update it on the record. From then on each time the item is received or sold it will be into or from that location. As well as the new location being used for all future stock entries, all existing stock will automatically be transferred to the new location; all stock movements are made when the location is updated on the product record.
Multiple Concurrent Locations
Each product can be placed in multiple warehouse locations. Each product record is provided with a default location but this can be manually amended when stock is received or sold. This means that each time stock is moved internally that you need to say from which specific location the items are being taken and moved to. You need to do an internal stock movement:
- Go to Products > Inventory detail.
- Filter the report to locate the product item in each location it has ben placed in.
- Click the Actions icon next to the items to be moved.
- Enter the quantity and location to move the item to.
- Click Move items.
This will create an internal movement, and will not affect your accounting.
