The allocation status of sales helps you to see whether stock items have been reserved for your sales orders. Allocating your stock to sales means it is removed from the on-hand stock value and cannot be sold to anyone else, unless unallocated from the sales order. Stock can be allocated to orders individually or on mass, and will auotmatically be done when an order is fulfilled. When there is not enought stock to fulfil a whole order the status will show you that there are items left outstanding. You will also see the stock status on sales credits when you're expecting products to be returned.

How can I see the allocation status of my sales orders?
You can see the allocation status of your sales orders from the sales order listing, go to Sales > List all Sales/Quotes. Use the filters to view orders of different allocation statuses, or go straight from the sales menu to List Sales by allocation status.
Notice how you can also see the Fulfilment Status and Shipping Status on your sales orders too!
