Women's fashion brand Katie Kerr entered the retail industry when they decided, instead of renting out their retail space in Corbridge, they would occupy it. Katie Oliver and Christine Kerr joined forces to start Katie Kerr in 2007, taking on the challenge of starting their own business and being their own bosses. Stockists of over 30 fashion labels including Masai Clothing, Fly London, White Stuff and many more, they are known for bringing style and comfort to your wardrobe from a great range of brands.
Since successfully opening their first store they opened a second store in 2012, both are based on the High Street in Corbridge, UK. Katie Kerr has also embraced ecommerce launching their Magento website late in 2013 and they’re currently expanding their ecommerce presence by setting up an Amazon store. We caught up with Director, Nick Oliver to tell us more.
A Brightpearl customer since 2012, Katie Kerr started using Brightpearl to accelerate their business to the next level. With 10 years previous experience in retail, Nick had experience in getting shops, websites and catalogues to work in unison, he knew he needed a system like Brightpearl to support the business. In 2012, Nick decided it was time for Katie Kerr to build a website and start selling online to carve out their own space on the web.
“We knew our stock control wasn’t very good and it would need to be better to start selling online. We had a point of sale system, various spreadsheet systems and Quickbooks for the accounting, so it was all a bit higgledy-piggledy and nothing integrated. We wanted to be sure we weren't selling stock we didn’t actually have. The main thing for us was to have a stable operation to start selling multichannel.”

To assist Katie Kerr in developing a robust retail business from which to expand, Brightpearl has helped bring together orders, inventory, customer data and accounting, all in one system.
“We started using Brightpearl in the stores to begin with to get our inventory set up, using it for inventory management, point of sale, and accounting before we went live with the website. Adding in the website was really easy and linked all of our sales channel up. Having a single view of our inventory was really important for us to expand.”

The stores are the biggest channel for Katie Kerr at the moment but the ecommerce side of the business is growing rapidly. They have plans to expand online into Europe, America and Asia - watch this space!
“We’re selling a small amount in Europe the States and Australia but we really see potential in Europe - overall, we want to be selling more online both in the UK and internationally. Online is where we see the biggest opportunity for the business to grow in the future. Brightpearl also integrates with eBay so we’ll look into that channel too.”
