Salman Malik – CEO

Salman joined Brightpearl with 15 years of experience in building and growing Web and business software companies. Prior to his role at Brightpearl, Salman spent 8 years at Siebel Systems, and initiated the development of Siebel's Web-based products. Prior to Siebel, Salman was a co-founder of Firefly Network, an early pioneer of personalization and recommendation technologies, acquired by Microsoft in 1998. Salman also served as VP of Product Marketing at AMEE, a London-based technology business providing a platform for carbon data aggregation. Salman was born in Pakistan and grew up on four continents. He holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Adam Smith - CFO / SVP Operations
Adam Smith has over 25 years of experience in retail, direct channels and e-commerce.  Before joining Brightpearl, Adam was eCommerce Development Director for Dixons Stores Group, and was part of the leadership team that took Sit-up Limited from startup to $400 million sales in just five years. Adam also has extensive experience working with multi-channel retail startups in the US, Asia and Europe. Adam holds a B.Sc. from the London School of Economics, is a qualified treasurer and qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen.  In his spare time, Adam enjoys playing tennis with his daughter and, living in beautiful West Dorset, walking his dog and country pursuits.
Andy Young - CMO
Andy Young joined Brightpearl in early 2013, after leading marketing for Intuit’s TurboTax brand, and was a key member of the management team that increased TurboTax revenues by 40% in just three years.  Prior to Intuit/TurboTax, Andy was vice president of web marketing for Adobe Systems, and managed all aspects of’s strategy, e-commerce, search / affiliate / direct marketing, analytics and creative services.  Before Adobe, Andy was chief marketing officer for Shutterfly, a collection of brands that provide photo-based products and services, where he was responsible for driving revenues from startup through its successful initial public offering. Andy holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  Andy, his wife and two girls are trading San Diego sunshine for San Francisco fog and sunshine.
Carter Perez, SVP Sales, Americas
Carter leads our sales efforts in the Americas and Australia. He brings over 20 years of business experience to Brightpearl, most recently having grown two early stage startups from under $2M in revenue to over $23M in revenue in less than 36 months. Carter started his career at Xerox where he ascended the sales organization to Sales and Operations Management position responsible for the Western US. After leaving Xerox he has held a series of sales, marketing, and operational leadership positions at both public and private companies. Including leading sales, marketing and/or customer service at BirdDog Solutions, Hightail (formerly YouSendIt), and HA Advantage. Carter has a double major in English and Psychology from Vanderbilt University. He and his wife Pam have two daughters and the family enjoys basketball, skiing, and traveling.
Tom Glason – VP Sales, EMEA
Tom joined Brightpearl in November 2010, initially to head up their Business Development efforts. Having spent 6 months drumming up interest from potential partners, including Banks, ISPs & Telco’s, Tom then took over the management and growth of the direct sales team as well. Prior to joining Brightpearl, Tom worked for Atos Origin, a global IT Services provider delivering consulting, systems integration and managed services to blue-chip clients across the world. He was responsible for managing complex, multi-million pound BPO deals, selling high-tech transactional services into the retail, transport & hospitality sectors. Prior to Atos Origin, Tom was the head of Sales & Business Development at Swiftpass Digital, a start-up mobile ticketing / couponing company that pioneered the use of 2D barcodes on the mobile phone. Tom has a First Class BSc Hons Degree in Sports Psychology and loves to surf, eat good food and play golf (badly!).
James Scott – Senior VP, Alliances & Community
James is responsible for developing relationships with Brightpearl’s strategic global partners as well as building an active and engaged community of users and partners around the Brightpearl app. Prior to Brightpearl, James was European Managing Director for ecommerce platform provider, ChannelAdvisor, as well as Founder of a UK-based real-estate software company. James has a BEng Hons Degree in Automotive Engineering which explains his love of fast cars. He’s also a proud dad (of two lovely girls) and spends most of his spare time trying to work out how to have more spare time. James recently gave up UK fish and chips for Californian sunshine.
Mark Heath - CTO
Mark leads our engineering and technical operations teams. Before joining us Mark was general manager for server virtualization within the Cloud Platforms Group at Citrix. In this role Mark had responsibility for open source Xen (that powers the world's biggest clouds) and the XenServer product. Mark started his career as a graduate software engineer on Rolls-Royce gas-turbine engine controllers. Next stops included telecommunications, internet protocols, smartphone operating systems and internet telephony (VoIP). Mark has held VP Engineering roles at Chase Research, Symbian, Truphone, and Citrix Systems. Mark has an MSc in Electronic System Design (Cranfield), an MSc in Software Engineering (Oxford University) and an MBA (Surrey University). Mark has three daughters and his family are often out camping, hill-walking, cycling and sailing.
Chris Tanner – Founder
Having grown and sold two businesses, Chris is vastly experienced in the nature of small businesses and ecommerce, and has a business owner’s insight into the needs of an SME business. Chris studied at the University of Sheffield and has a MSc in Electronic Engineering; he started his first company at the age of 21. Being frustrated by a patchwork of traditional systems such as Sage, ACT! and OS-Commerce, but lacking the budget for the options available, Chris went on to develop Brightpearl. Chris keeps one eye on the wind and is always ready to kite-surf, although he mostly loves to work.
Andrew Mulvenna – Co-founder and VP of Partnerships
Andrew is a co-founder of Brightpearl. He holds a BSc in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and joined Chris in 2007 to build the Brightpearl business. Andrew is a SMB software and SaaS executive with experience in general management, go-to-market strategy, inside sales, channel sales, and product management. Previously Andrew led IT projects in both the private and public sectors, which included being the Venue Technology Manager for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Andrew is passionate about adventure sports, youth organizations and is a member of the Scouting Association. He enjoys mountaineering, surfing and mountain biking when he has the odd day off.
