About the Role
This is a critical role for the TechOps team and a great opportunity to be at core of driving improvements to our SaaS infrastructure using modern configuration and management tools. You’ll be a key team player, working with a global team of experienced administrators, engineers, quality and business analysts, product managers, customers and partners. You will work collaboratively to roll our new features and overseeing frequent releases to production.
You should be educating and driving the adoption of DevOps practices across all the teams and enthusiastically progressing the state of the art in your field within the company. You’ll be ambitious to grow into the team or technical leadership roles and a mentor to other members in the team in improving reliability, scalability and performance. This role is based around standard UK hours (9AM - 6PM), five days a week but as with all Systems Administrator roles, some flexibility is required. You will support the team by providing backup to an on-call rota (6AM - 6PM) and respond to technical incidents outside of standard hours.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you should:
Have a technical degree (Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent).
Have at least 5 years DevOps/SysAdmin experience with high-volume, high availability Linux systems in a commercial production environment.
Have at least 3 years experience guiding developers in taking products to production in a DevOps organisation.
Have a history of automating infrastructure using modern CM tools (preferably Chef).
Have a good working knowledge of the AWS products necessary to support web applications.
Have a solid understanding of network infrastructure, protocols and components.
Have some understanding of running and tuning an RDBMS (preferably MySQL)
Be a good communicator.
Be a self starter.
Be enthusiastic about developing your expertise in diverse technical and business domains
Enjoy variety in your work and be willing to pick up new tools, technologies and techniques.
Working experience of managing container infrastructure.
Some programming experience over and above simple scripting.
Strong skills with Chef recipe design.
Experience maintaining and monitoring services written in PHP, Java, Go and node.js.
