Bringing Amazon to The Amazon

Most of us take being able to order from international marketplaces for granted, but for consumers in South America, it’s not so easy. Five years ago, Mario Colla, CEO of TiendaMIA decided to do something about it.

Mario didn’t like the idea of customers in South America, especially in Argentina, Perú and Brazil having to pay more and receive a worse experience compared to consumers in North America who were buying the same products.

He realized that he could sell through his own site all the products on Amazon, eBay, Walmart and more. One HQ in Uruguay, and a warehouse stateside in Florida later, TiendaMIA was born.

Making experience central to the business

TiendaMIA had overcome the shipping barriers, but what about providing a better end-to-end experience whilst using a two-stage shipping process? Enter Magento and Brightpearl.

“We chose Magento due to how customizable and flexible it is,” Mario told us. “We could create a completely customized front end to our multi-country business created by our own team of developers.” Once TiendaMIA decided on Magento, they needed a compatible, flexible retail operations platform to run their atypical business.

“We chose Brightpearl due to its strong relationship with Magento,” Mario explained. “We felt it could accompany our growth and give us what we needed. Looking back, we made a good choice.”

“Having all our operations centralized in one place is really important for us,” says Francisco Diaz, Administration Supervisor at TiendaMIA, picking up the story. “We only ship complete orders, so one of the great things about Brightpearl is being able to easily see if an order is outstanding and when it will be complete, so we can keep the customer updated throughout. The automated link between Brightpearl and Magento is seamless, so it’s no work at all to keep customers updated through every step of their journey. Even if something goes wrong with an order, our customers appreciate us being able to let them know and keep them updated. This saves an experience from being negative and helps us turn it into a positive. Brightpearl does it all for us. It’s reliable. It just works.”

“We want to be the #1 go-to cross-border marketplace in South America,” Francisco says. “When we started five years ago, this would have been completely unachievable, but we’ve been growing 150% year-on-year.
